But allow me to start from the beginning. S:E, or Survival: Earth, was a 2007 Transformers RPG created in August of '07. Since then, we have enjoyed two years of RPing and we're going on powerfully into our third.
Our group is a small one; a band of 15 or so, spread out across the globe from Norway to Canada to Virginia. We love RPing, and, more importantly, we tie in a love of Transformers with a passion for writing.
Some say we are Elitists.
I agree.
But there comes a time when you look at RPGs across the internet, and you see smatterings of them here and there, riddled with horrific out-of-character portrayals, no rules, and mods who do nothing about it. These are vastly popular RPGs.... why?
They are easy to get into, and it is easy to get away with every one-shot-killing weapon and mary-sue you can come up with without a fight.
But, they say we are Elitists.
And in those smatterings, inside the posts written by 12 year old fangirls who care for nothing aside from sticking their two favorite characters into a random love-or-die plot, you find four line posts, plagued by horrifying grammar, a lack of punctuation, and no imagination.
Yes, this is the start. This is where -all- of the good and great writers in fanfiction get their start. We have -all- been there, at the beginning of our writing lives, dreaming up knights in shining armor and heroes and villians. I was there, you were there, and that is the end of it. We all, quite plainly, suck at the beginning.
And that's okay.
But they call S:E and elitist community, because we are literate. They call us snobs, because we require a certain level of maturity and development, because we like to see a storyline unfold at the hands of our talented RPers, including but not limited to Penny, Raditz, Samma, Dragony, and Greydrake, who holds English as a second language to Norwegian and does it with pizazz. They call us stuck-up, among other things, for the rules we have set in place. Do you know what the rules do?
They set everyone on a level playing field.
They prevent characters that could destroy a large city in one fell swoop.
They ensure that everyone puts a little thought and effort into their character and their character's storyline.
This, to ask a player to think, surely is not a difficult request, is it?
But if this makes us elitists, then so be it.
I am proud and unapologetic, if that is the case, to be an S:E Elitist.
Thank you.
